Program Note
FIVE BROMANCES is a suite of pieces for viola and piano composed as a tribute to my friend Daniel McCarthy. Our close friendship, dating back to our high school years, and subsequent years as roommates in New York City, has been a rich source of inspiration for me as a composer. The pieces in this suite explore the lyrical potential of the viola and aim to capture different aspects of our personalities and memorable experiences from our past. The title, originally intended to be "Romances," was changed to "Bromances" due to a suggestion that better captured the spirit of our friendship.
